Sem Hurkmans is a research associate in management and organization at the Department of Organization Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He received his Master of Science in Policy, Communication and Organization from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He was awarded a Research Assistant Publication Grant for his thesis “AI in the world of visual arts”, which explores how creative practitioners experience and use artificial intelligence in their work.
Sem’s research focuses on the intersection of digital technology, creative processes and artificial intelligence. Using qualitative methods, he studies how creative practitioners engage with emerging AI tools and how this shapes their practices, identities and perceptions of creativity. His broader academic interests include digital transformation and the role of technology in shaping organizational and creative practices.
