Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science, Environmental Geography

Research

I am a researcher in food system working on how to redesign farming and landscapes system so that they best benefit society and stakeholders especially farmers. Re-designing for transforming agri-food systems is a necessity to achieve major improvement of farming systems and agricultural landscapes in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emission of agriculture, biodiversity loss and increasing the viability of farming.

Expertise

I conduct my research in various areas. In the Caribbean, we are looking at the impacts of policy and human activities especially agriculture on environmental issues (e.g., bird population), economic profitability of people and social aspects in various islands (Guadeloupe, Martinique). From 2021, we will also be working on the impacts of those activities on coastal managements in the Dutch Caribbean. In East Africa, we are looking at the farming system sustainability in two regions of Tanzania where several innovations such as rainwater harvesting and microdose fertilization have been introduced. In Vietnam, we study the impact of various agroforestry systems coupling fruit trees and several annual crops on the sustainability of households. In Europe, we study the diversity of agricultural systems at large scales, with a focus comparing organic and conventional agriculture and the drivers of change of the level of diversity.

Education

2015: PhD in Agricultural Sciences – INRAE Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (Guadeloupe, France).
