Oscar Widerberg is Associate Professor in Environmental Politics and Policy. He serves as Deputy Department Head of the Environmental Policy Analysis section at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Faculty of Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). He is also affiliated with the Department for Political Science and Public Administration at the Faculty of Social Science (FSW) at the VU as a teacher and researcher in political science.
His research focuses on complexity and hybridity in global governance for sustainability and has been published in over 100 academic articles, books, policy reports, and opinion pieces, among others in Nature Climate Change, Ambio, Environmental Politics, and Millennium. Oscar is also Program Director for the Environment and Resource Management (ERM) master program at the VU. Prior to joining the VU, Oscar worked in consulting, advising international public authorities, primarily European institutions, on energy, environment and climate policies. He holds a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a master in sustainable development from Utrecht University, and a bachelor in international relations from Malmö University.
