Natalia Silvis is a computer engineer with a PhD in applied physics, namely nanotechnology. She has been working at the VU for more than 20 years as a lecturer in pervasive computing and software testing. She is the (co-)author of 2 books, Electron-Beam-Induced Nanometer-Scale Deposition (2016) and Pervasive Computing: Engineering Smart Systems (2017).
dr. Natalia Silvis-Cividjian
Her research topics are: computer science and software engineering education and safety assessement in radiation therapy.
Her teaching includes always a hands-on practical component where students work with realistic, software-controlled miniature robotic vehicles (self-driving cars and autonomous trains) but also smart homes and medical devices. In 2019 she obtained together with Rob Limburg an NRO Comenius Teaching Felow grant for her VU-BugZoo project that makes software testing more exciting by engaging students in interactive bug-hunting games. Currently she is working on NEXXT, an NRO SCALE-UP project to disseminate the approach to other institutions.
