Max J. van Gerrevink is a PhD candidate working on the FireIce project of the Ecosystem and Climate Change research group lead by dr. Sander Veraverbeke. He is a climate scientist investigating the interactions between fire, climate, terrestrial ecosystems, and the carbon cycle. His research examines how climate change influences ecosystem disturbances and carbon fluxes, and how these changes contribute to feedbacks within the climate system. He is experienced in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and machine learning applied at continental scales. Max has extensive field and laboratory experience quantifying carbon combustion, including post-fire soil and biomass sampling to assess ecosystem carbon losses.
