dr. Maureen Lankhuizen, MSc

Personal information

Dr. Maureen Lankhuizen is assistant professor at the Department of Spatial Economics (VU Amsterdam). She studied economics at Maastricht University. After graduating in March 1994 she worked as a researcher/consultant in a number of research companies. In 2009 she obtained her Ph.D. from Radboud University Nijmegen with a dissertation on the determinants of foreign direct investments.

Her research interests include regional development, trade and commodity flows, foreign direct investment, and quantitative research including input-output analysis and the construction of regional datasets.

She teaches at the School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Sciences at VU Amsterdam. She has also taught at the Amsterdam University College and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). 

Research

Maureen Lankhuizen's research focuses on models of spatial and geographic interaction. Her research is mostly empirical in nature. Key research topics include gravity equations of international trade and foreign direct investment, regional development and regional input-output (IO) analysis, construction of regional data (e.g. regional IO tables and integrated data on regional trade and transport), and Bayesian multilevel models.
