Personal information

Marleen is full professor and director of the KIN Center for Digital Innovationat at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She studied Sociology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and has a PhD in Business Economics on the topic of Organizational Learning and IT at the VU Amsterdam. Marleen has been assistant professor at the department of Work and Organizational Psychology, TU Delft and associate professor Business Administration at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Since 2006 she holds a chair in Knowledge and Organization at the School of Business and Economics. Marleen has been visiting scholar during her PhD at Stanford and in 2000-2001 she was a visiting scholar at the Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) group at Harvard Business School. 

Research

Marleen Huysman is a scholar in information systems and organizational studies whose research focuses on the interplay between technology, knowledge, and work practices. Her work explores how digital innovations such as artificial intelligence changes work. A central theme in her research is how organizations can effectively integrate new technologies while preserving human expertise and fostering collaboration. More broadly, she examines the social and organizational implications of digital transformation, with particular attention to learning, knowledge sharing, and the future of work.

Marleen Huysman has taught at the bachelor’s and master’s level. She currently teaches various courses at the PhD level and is actively involved in executive education. She also organizes the annual KIN Summer School for PhD and junior faculty.
