Full Professor, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation

, Amsterdam Business Research Institute

Personal information

Maria Tims is Full Professor at the department of Management and Organization and holds a chair in the Future of Work. Before joining SBE in 2013, she worked as an assistant professor at the Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she obtained her PhD in Work and Organizational Psychology cum laude in 2013.

Research

My scientific and practical expertise lies in the areas of 1) employee proactivity and work design (at the individual and team level, such as self-organizing teams), and 2) workforce analytics.

1) I measure and facilitate the development of employee proactivity (e.g., job crafting) as most work environments now call for proactive employees who take action to change things when needed.
My current research is on how proactive behaviors can be managed within teams - what happens in the team if one team member crafts his/her job? I received a NWO grant to work on this research. My team/collaborators and I have published 30+ articles on these topics in top-ranked scientific journals.

2) Workforce analytics, inspired by the vast amount of data collected in this area on the one hand and issues related to survey fatigue and dropout on the other hand, my newest research focuses on unobtrusively measuring employee well-being and generating a link with workforce data to predict important individual and organizational outcomes.

Grants

VENI research grant from NWO for research project "Looking for the “I” in teams while still functioning as a team: Individual job crafting and its relationships with individual, team, and organizational outcomes."
