Personal information

Maria Tamontseva is a PhD researcher and teacher at the Department of Management and Organization at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In August 2023, she started a 4-year PhD project on entrepreneurial careers under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jos Akkermans and Prof. Dr. Wouter Stam. 

In 2021, Maria obtained her Bachelor's in Management degree with a specialization in Human Resource Management at the Graduate School of Management, St. Petersburg State University, with distinction. During her Bachelor's education, she also successfully completed a semester abroad at McGill University. In 2022, Maria obtained a Master of Science degree in Business Administration – Human Resource Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam with cum laude. 

Research

In her research, Maria applies career and organizational behavior perspectives to study entrepreneurship. She is interested in understanding 1) entrepreneurial career success 2) events and entrepreneurial career transitions 3) careers after entrepreneurship and the value that former entrepreneurs bring to organizations. 

Teaching

Maria teaches Bachelor-level courses, such as People in Business and Society and Organization Theory. Moreover, Maria supervises Bachelor and Master students.
