Personal information

Marcel Zeelenberg is professor of Behavioral Research in Marketing at the department of Marketing at the Vrije Universiteit since 2017. He is also professor of Economic Psychology and Academic Director of the Tilburg Institute for Behavioral Economics Reseach (TIBER) at the Tilburg University since 2009. He obtained his PhD in 1996 at the University of Amsterdam.

Research

Marcel is an economic psychologists and tries to understand how people make decisions, and what the role of emotions and motivational factors are in decision making. His published research deals with regret, disappointment, envy, shame, guilt, anger, pride and hope, and also with the psychology of greed. His more applied work examines financial decision making in the context of insurances, taxation, poverty, and people's reactions to behavioral interventions.
