Leonardo Nascimento works part-time as Visiting Fellot at the at the Department of Environmental Economics, Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM), Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam. Leonardo is also a Senior Power and Renewbales Analyst at Uniper Global Commodities.
Leonardo works in the policy-science interface and uses his research to provide analytical support to policymakers through policy briefs, scientific publications and direct support to ministries and the European Commission. He specialises in the analysis of national policies and their collective effects on renewable uptake and greenhouse gas emission trajectories. Leonardo has led several analyses related to international climate policy and climate mitigation. His research focuses on international climate policy, national climate mitigation strategies, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and renewable-based power system decarbonisarion strategies.
Leonardo Nascimento was awarded a PhD from Wageningen University, the Netherlands, for his thesis entitled Enabling future climate policy: An analysis of policy gaps and progress under the Paris Agreement. He holds a MSc in Sustainable Energy technology from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. He is the author of over 15 refereed journal articles and dozens of policy briefs or reports, communicating research fidings to a broader aucdience.
