Lars Tierolf is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). Here he works on the development of agent-based models that capture household adaptation and migration decisions in response to climate change. He is currently involved in the INSURE-ADAPT project, where he researches climate adaptation behavior under multiple climate risks.
In 2025, Lars completed his doctoral dissertation entitled “Rising Waters: Tradeoffs in Climate Migration and Adaptation Under Future Flood Risk” in 2025. During his PhD he combined agent-based modeling with flood risk assessment models to study household adaptation and migration behavior under increasing flood risk. Lars holds a Bachelors degree in Future Planet Studies and a cum laude Master’s degree in Earth Sciences from the Universteit van Amsterdam.
