dr. Koen van Bommel

Personal information

Koen van Bommel is Associate Professor of Organization Theory & Corporate Sustainability at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Koen van Bommel obtained his PhD in Management from Warwick Business School. During his doctoral studies, he also conducted research at Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) in Evanston, IL. Prior to becoming a researcher, Koen van Bommel was a sustainability consultant at KPMG.

Research

Koen is particularly interested in sustainable business models, circular economy, the tensions and paradoxes around corporate sustainability and sustainability/integrated reporting. Koen van Bommel’s work has appeared in journals such as Organization Studies, Organization, Organization & Environment, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Journal of Cleaner Production, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, Journal of Business Ethics as well as in several books.

Teaching

Koen van Bommel’s teaching activities include courses at the Bachelor and Master level, for instance on organization theory, management & organization, CSR and management consulting, as well as the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses.
