I am an ecosystem modeller interested in how plants, soils and microorganisms interact to regulate the terrestrial carbon cycle under global change. My research combines process-based modelling with field observations to understand how nutrient availability, belowground ecology and climate shape ecosystem functioning across spatial and temporal scales. Much of my current work focuses on tropical forests and the role of phosphorus cycling, root dynamics and microbial processes in determining the future carbon sink of the Amazon. More broadly, I aim to improve Earth system models by incorporating ecological mechanisms that control ecosystem resilience and feedbacks to climate.
