Janina Klein
Associate Professor, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation
Janina's research is motivated by a single overarching question: how do organizations contribute to or obstruct the resolution of societal problems? She approaches this question through two complimentary research streams. The first examines how the framing of societal problems shapes social change, with a focus on understanding why and how some framing mobilizes action towards social change while others forecloses it. The second stream investigates how mission-driven organizations manage and drive organizational and social change, with a particular focus on the role of values and emotions.

Her teaching is guided by a core conviction: in a world characterized by complexity, rapid change, and contested knowledge, what students most need is not information but the capacity to think critically, act ethically, and continue developing as professionals long after they leave the classroom. She pursues this through practice-informed instruction and active learning, both of which reflect a deep belief that continuous learning happens when students are the agents of their own learning journey rather than passive recipients of content.
She teaches the following courses: Organizational change and international HRM (MBA in International Business); Leading Change (EMBA Leading with Purpose); Consulting Project (MSc Management Consulting); Academic Writing Skills: From PhD Paper to Publication (PhD course).
In addition to her teaching duties, Janina is the program coordinator for the MSc Business Administration - Management Consulting, the vice-chair of the exam committee for professional education, and the director of the mentoring program for international master students (MIMS).
