Gianna Marsman is a PhD candidate at the Athena Institute at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research centers on continuous learning and improvement within health systems, with a particular focus on how these systems can cultivate sustainable learning practices that drive meaningful transformation.
Drawing on her interdisciplinary background in Psychology and Innovation Sciences, Gianna employs a variety of inter- and transdisciplinary methods in her work. In her first PhD project, she conducts an evaluative study of thirteen healthcare organizations to investigate the development of sustainable learning and improvement practices. Her second project broadens the scope, exploring learning and transformation across different health domains. This involves action research conducted in collaboration with health and well-being professionals, as well as local neighborhood initiatives aimed at promoting health and well-being.
Through her work, Gianna seeks to contribute to the development of resilient, adaptable health(care) systems that can better meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.
