Dr. Georges Farina is a postdoctoral researcher at the Environmental Economics of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at VU Amsterdam. His research focuses on climate change adaptation, urban planning, and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). He specializes in the evaluation of urban NBS, specifically, the analysis of the demand for Ecosystem Services, using stated preference methods.
Additionally, he uses various decision-support methods to NBS policymaking. These can be Cost-Benefit Analysis, Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, as well as other decision-making methods, including spatially explicit approaches, such as spatial Multi-Objective Optimization.
He works at IVM primarily on the Horizon Europe PIISA project, which aims to develop a European business model for stimulating the adoption of NBS through insurance in cities, focusing on green roofs. His work involves the evaluation of the various co-benefits of green roofs, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and identifying sustainable instruments to incentivize investments in green roofs.
