Personal information

Evgenia I. Lysova is an Associate Professor in Organizational Behavior at the Department of Management and Organization of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is on a mission to understand how to enable and sustain greater experiences of meaningfulness in individuals’ work and careers with the help of organizations. Her expert research on meaningful work, work as a calling, careers, and micro Corporate Social Responsibility has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Management Studies, Human Relations, Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Business Ethics, and Personnel Psychology, among others. Dr. Lysova has actively invested in developing meaningful work research field by setting up a forward-looking agenda with her work and by leading special issues on the topic (Journal of Business Ethics and Journal of Vocational Behavior). In collaboration with colleagues across the Globe, she has been leading the efforts aimed at creating a community of meaningful work scholars, resulting in organizing diverse seminars, conferences, and lately virtual events series on the topic. To serve the academic community, she was a representative-at-large of the Careers Division at the Academy of Management, a co-lead organizer of the division's two specialized conferences, an organizer of the European Group of Organizational Studies conference (EGOS2021), and a mentor for young scholars. As an internationally known expert, Dr. Lysova is regularly invited to deliver talks at academic and practitioner seminars, serve as a discussant, and contribute to podcasts. Dr. Evgenia is also an elected board member of Amsterdam Young Academy, a network of promising young scientists from different disciplines who develop views on science, scientific policy, and bridge science and society in Amsterdam.

Research

Dr. Lysova's research primarily concerns meaningful work, calling, careers, and Corporate Social Responsibility. She is especially interested in understanding what enables employees to experience a sense of work meaningfulness in their work and careers and how the experience of meaningful work can be created and maintained over time by individuals and with the help of organizations. She finds it important to explore how individuals can pursue their meaningful careers in a “healthy” manner in the long term (e.g., focus on work-life balance and well-being). Dr. Lysova is interested in interdisciplinary work, working on the project at the intersection of meaningful work with research on decent work, innovation, CSR, creative industries, or entrepreneurship. 

Teaching

She is a master and bachelor thesis coordinator for the HRM Master’s program and a coordinator of the Qualitative Learning Line for Amsterdam Business Research Institute (ABRI) part-time PhD program. She also teaches several courses such as Academic Skills (BSc), Integrated Research Project (BSc), and Research Seminar II (MSc), and she supervises PhD students, Master’s students, and Bachelor students.
