Emma Haske is a PhD candidate at the Athena Institute of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Emma draws on theories from feminist new materialism to analyze the interplay between prefigurative politics and the capitalist political economic system within the context of food system transformations. With a background in cultural anthropology and development sociology, she uses audio-visual ethnographic methods to zoom in on the affective narratives and relationships of different actors working on food system transformation. To contribute to debates on post-capitalism in political ecology and sustainability transition studies, she analyses the role of emotions in how these narratives and relationships either challenge or reproduce the capitalist political-economic system in which food systems are embedded. Outside (and inside) of academia, Emma considers herself as part of the agroecology movement.
