dr. Dominic Detzen

Personal information

Dominic Detzen is an associate professor of accounting, having joined Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2013. After successfully completing the tenure-track, he was promoted to his current position in 2018. He holds a PhD from HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Leipzig, Germany. Dominic's expertise lies in both auditing and financial reporting, where he uses qualitative reserach methods to understand both historical and contemporary challenges.

Research

Dominic's research is fairly diverse, but his primary research interests relate to auditing, where he investigates auditors’ professional judgment and decision-making processes from a qualitative perspective as well as the professional and organizational contexts in which auditors work. A secondary research interest is in financial reporting standard setting and regulation, with a leaning towards the development of financial reporting standards. Dominic's research uses a diverse set of qualitative methods that include interviews, ethnographic observations, as well as content and discourse analysis.

Dominic's work has been published in journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and European Accounting Review.
