Dian van Huijstee is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the department of Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is a misinformation researcher, with a particular interest in health. In her work, she focuses on the continued influence of misinformation after correction, which was also the topic of her PhD dissertation (under supervision of Prof. Dr. Peter Kerkhof, Dr. Ivar Vermeulen, and Dr. Giulia Ranzini). Why does corrected misinformation still have an impact on our reasoning and behavior, even when we are consciously aware that the information is untrue? By doing experimental research, she investigates which (psychological) mechanisms underlie the continued influence effect of misinformation, and which interventions are effective in reducing continued influence.
