Björn Brügemann is Associate Professor of Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a fellow of the Tinbergen Institute and IZA, and Associate Editor at the International Economic Review. He received his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2004). Before, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at Yale University (July 2004 until June 2011). He held visiting positions at the University of Pennsylvania, CREI, CESIfo and the University of Konstanz.

Björn Brügemann is a macroeconomist whose research focuses on the functioning of labor markets and the broader dynamics of the economy. His work investigates how institutions, policies, and market frictions shape employment, unemployment, and economic fluctuations.
His research aims to deepen our understanding of how labor markets operate within the macroeconomy, offering insights that are relevant for designing effective economic and social policies.
Teaching
Björn is PhD candidate advisor of the Economics PhD candidates at SBE, and programme director of the master Economics. He also teaches the following courses:
