Anouck Staff (1992) is working as a PhD student at the Clinical Neuropsychology department, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses 'What works and for whom' in the assessment and treatment of ADHD symptoms in the classroom. She is interested in the effectiveness of treatment components in behavioral teacher training for ADHD, and moderators and mediators into the effectiveness of elements.
The aim of the PAINT-T (Dutch: Leerkracht & Druk Gedrag project) is to investigate the short-term effectiveness of antecedent and consequent behavioral teacher training techniques for teachers of children attending primary school with (symptoms of) attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) on a) individually chosen problem behaviors targeted in the intervention, b) teacher rated ADHD, ODD, social-emotional problems and school impairment, and c) masked classroom observations of ADHD and ODD behavior. Moreover, child (e.g., neurocognitive functioning), teacher, and classroom factors that may moderate the effectiveness of these antecedent and consequent techniques are examined. Teachers will be randomly assigned to one of the two intervention conditions or a waitlist control condition. The randomized controlled microtrial will demonstrate effects of different types of interventions on ADHD-related behavior. Single case experiments will examine the effectiveness of antecedent techniques and the additional effect of consequent techniques.
This project is part of the Psychosocial ADHD Intervention (PAINT) studies, a collaboration between Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry), KU Leuven (Research Group Health, Behavior and Psychopathology), and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Clinical Neuropsychology).
