dr. Ananya Tiwari

Research Associate, Faculty of Science, Environmental Policy Analysis

Personal information

Ananya is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Environmental Policy Analysis (EPA) group at IVM. She will be working for a 3-year Biodiversa+ funded project SaltyBeats, which focuses on saline nature-based solutions, specifically in the context of adapting increasingly saline agriculture to sea level rise, whilst conserving biodiversity. Her role involves extensive stakeholder engagement, with case studies in the Netherlands and other countries. Previously, she did her PhD at the Atlantic Technological University in Ireland with the EU SCORE project, which also focused on coastal nature-based solutions, living labs, stakeholder engagement, and participatory research methods.

She has experience working with several EU-wide projects (like SSH Centre, EmpowerUs, Vitalise, ProClimate, ProCoast, Eklipse, ClimateScan, SFI) on a range of environmental topics, including climate policy, citizen engagement, digital twin, low cost sensors, citizen science, climate-smart agriculture, living labs, climate justice, community resilience, empowerment tools, coastal management, urban planning, behavioural transformation, and more. She has also worked on projects in the Global South, including in Jamaica, India, and Colombia, with a focus on nature-based solutions, stakeholder engagement, and community empowerment. This included coordinating three reforestation initiatives internationally, for organisations like ReWorld, Proyecto Titi, Terracon Ecotech, and Greener Grazing. She did her MSc in Climate Change, Development, and Policy at the University of Sussex in the UK, and her BA in Economics, Sociology, and Political Science from the University of Mumbai, India.

Personally, she really enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures and cuisines; feels passionately about yoga and meditation; and is a trained Indian classical musician.
