Amy van der Heijden is assistant professor at the Department of Health Sciences, conducting interdisciplinary research in the fields of (discursive) health psychology, and nutrition and health sciences. Van der Heijden’s research focus is on how eating behaviours can be improved through the study of food preference development in everyday life. A broad definition of food preference is used, including interactional, psychological, sociological, and sensory aspects that shape preferences for particular food and eating practices. Van der Heijden is an active ambassador of interdisciplinary collaboration between e.g. interaction researchers, psychologists, sociologists, and nutritionists, as this advances both the respective research fields as well as practical attempts to enhance sustainable and healthy eating.
