Start of a joint collaboration with the UN Committee on Migrant Workers!

Delen
10 april 2023
We at ACMRL are honoured to announce the start of a joint collaboration with the UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW).

The CMW is a body of independent experts that monitors the implementation of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (ICRMW). This Convention lays down international standards for the treatment, welfare and rights of Migrant workers regardless of their legal status.

The joint collaboration not only aims to promote exchange between academia and the CMW, but also to enhance the visibility of the Convention and to reflect the work of the CMW in the curriculum of our Master's programme in International Refugee and Migration Law. A first joint activity is to co-supervise our Master students in making a knowledge clip about the Convention and the CMW. This clip aims to inform both academic audiences as well as a wider public about the Convention and the work of the CMW. In addition, we aim to organise conferences and various meetings that will look at the rights of migrant workers from different perspectives.

The joined collaboration is initiated by Younous Arbaoui, Assistant professor at our centre, in the context of his research into the relationship between the Convention and the Global Compact for Migration (GCM). It is a follow up of his conversations with the CMW during the International Migration Review Forum (UN New York 2022) as well as during the CMW’s General Discussion Day about the relationship between the Convention and the Global Compact for Migration (UN Geneva 2022).
