Computers can spot problems but how can doctors use the insights to make a correct diagnoses

The question in the first place is not what AI can do, but what we are going to do to make it workable in practice, says Martijn Schut, who has been appointed full professor in translational AI in laboratory medicine at the Amsterdam UMC last year. "In practice translational is something you should see literally as translating," he says. He was educated as computer scientist but as professor he spends at least the half of his time in hospital to facilitate translation. "Computer scientists and doctors work in two entirely different worlds. They need to start cooperating at an interdisciplinary level in a two way direction." Read more (in Dutch).
