Study facilities

Last updated on 16 September 2024
As a student of the Faculty of Medicine VU you can make use of a number of support facilities.

For example, there is the (medical) library. A large part of the collection can be consulted digitally at home. At the University Library in the main building of VU, 75 quiet places are currently available for students who cannot study at home due to circumstances. More information can be found on the website about the services of the University Library. Information about other facilities can be found on VU.nl.

More information on study facilities

  • Medical library

    Literature and library

In addition to the University Library, VU Amsterdam also has a medical library. This library is located in the hospital of VUmc, near the staff restaurant, on OB100.

  • Internet usage

VUmc has a number of computer rooms. These can be found in the basement of the medical faculty (BK37-45), in the (medical) library and in the clinical training center (KTC).

To use a PC, log in with your VUnet-ID. Only after logging in you are connected to the faculty computer network and services such as printing, e-mail and internet access are available.

    Wireless internet connection

The Eduroam wireless network is available throughout the entire VU campus. To connect with Eduroam in the medical faculty, you can go to http://vu.nl/draadloos and follow the instruction there. If you do not have an internet connection on your device, you can first connect to the wireless network VUwirelessSetup in the medical faculty, login details are not required. You will then be automatically redirected to http://vu.nl/draadloos where your device will be prepared to connect to Eduroam. More information about the wireless network can also be found on VU.nl. You can also use the KPN Guest network in and around the VUmc buildings.

If you have any questions, please contact:

You log in to vu.nl with your VUnet-ID. On your dashboard on VU.nl you will find notices and e-mails that you should not miss. We therefore recommend that you read your e-mail, the VU Amsterdam announcements and the Blackboard announcements every day via your dashboard. That way you never miss an important deadline or notification.

  • VU Webmail

As a student of VU Amsterdam you will receive your own email account at the start of your studies. Via this e-mail account, the university and your faculty transmit important announcements such as:

    • Dropout of lectures
    • Information meetings
    • Internship offer and other relevant information

In short: it is therefore important that you check your mail regularly!

You can consult your mail via the internet (webmail). This can be done both on campus and outside it via: https://outlook.office.com

NB: This procedure requires that the private email address is known. This is always the case for students. Employees can check this and add / change this on the VU-dashboard (E-HRM) under 'Change my details'. If the private email address is not (yet) known, you can go to one of the IT Service desk counters with valid identification. A new password will be generated for you there.
