I only see around 10%, yet many people assume I can see normally because I move independently through university life. The hardest part of studying is often not my disability itself; I have never known a life where I had 100% vision.
What I struggle with most is the constant need to explain, justify and defend the support I need. If something is not explicitly written somewhere in a policy, it can suddenly become incredibly difficult to arrange. Sometimes it costs more energy than the studying itself. At the same time, I also realized something important. For many people at the university, I may have been the first visually impaired student they had ever truly met. Hopefully, because of everything I fought for, the next visually impaired student will encounter fewer barriers.
