Three friends: Daniëlle, Eline & Anne

As mentoring sisters, Danielle and Anne experienced the entire introduction week of Movement Sciences together in 2009. Eline collected summaries - mostly written by Anne - that many students would use to their benefit.

Eline and Daniëlle met for the first time during a drinks trip. The fact that Daniëlle also left the bar immediately when Eline's grandfather died that evening, marked the unconditional friendship that would follow.

Daniëlle was organizer of a large group of girls with whom we joined many parties and get-togethers during the first year of our studies. A wonderful taste of Amsterdam's student life. In second year, we continued our tasting sessions and went on a skiing trip together. And so our friendship grew stronger, including literally falling down and getting up again.

Eline & Anne lived - together with a happy family of mice - for two years in their little palace in Amsterdam's Kolenkit neighborhood. This lovely place got demolished unfortunately, also when it came to our studies we went our separate ways. Danielle studied in England, Eline did research in Rome, and Anne already started working.

Eventually we organized a small reunion with several girls. Drinks followed. And a dinner. And then some more drinks. As fate would have it, the three of us were always there and gradually became a trio.

Fourteen years later, much has changed! We all got married and gave each other special places at these weddings - in the role of maid of honor and master of ceremonies. Eline is now a proud mother of two children and almost finishing her PhD degree at VUmc. Danielle also has a little boy and works in the school of nursing. Anne is married to a Canadian and hopes to complete her doctoral thesis next year.

Even though we don't see each other very often now, the friendship is stronger than ever. Every time we meet again, it feels like time has stood still. We mainly catch up by frequent video calls. This Christmas we spent three days together in Valkenburg, in the company of men and children. And last summer Danielle and Eline even flew to Canada to celebrate Anne's wedding there. That's how we know, this is a friendship that will last!
