'Working at VU has allowed me to explore a broad range of software development topics, deepening my knowledge of Linux and strengthening my proficiency in Git. I’ve also learned how to ensure robust infrastructure during project setup, using technologies such as SQL databases, Docker, and Nginx web servers. Thanks to the support of my experienced team, I’ve been able to dive deeper into software development and grow significantly as a developer.
Contribute to what you believe in
I particularly enjoy my work here because it gives me the opportunity to combine my research experience with programming for research projects. I earned my PhD in Film Studies, with a focus on Brith literature and cinema, at the University of Edinburgh before transitioning to software development in the Netherlands. Although my academic training was in a different field, I understand the research process and deeply value both research and education. I’m grateful to contribute to projects whose purpose I truly believe in.
A healthy work-life balance
I’m originally from Tokyo, Japan, and I enjoy every moment of living in the Netherlands with my husband and daughter. I truly appreciate the Netherlands’ relaxed yet efficient work culture and its excellent work–life balance, which has been a refreshing change from what I knew in Japan. I’m passionate about reading, whether it’s Russian novels, French poetry or Japanese manga. I also enjoy cycling through forests and doing indoor cardio and strength training, which helps me feel refreshed and stay focused.'
