Marcel Wintels has served as an interim member and Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of VU Amsterdam since 17 August 2026.
As interim Vice-Chair, his main focus is on university operations, while helping to ensure continuity of governance and progress on ongoing matters. He will remain in this role until a permanent Vice-Chair has been appointed.
Wintels studied fiscal economics at what was then HEAO Arnhem and tax law at Tilburg University. He has held various executive positions in the semi-public sector. He served as Chair of the Executive Board of Fontys University of Applied Sciences and HAN University of Applied Sciences. He was also CEO and co-owner of de Baak, an institute for training, development and leadership.
Before joining VU Amsterdam, Wintels served as interim Vice-Chair of the Executive Board of Radboud University. He also has extensive experience as an entrepreneur and supervisory board member.
