Storing radioactive waste —rather than disposing of it as quickly as possible—can save your institution a significant amount of money. Allowing radiation levels to decrease over time will in fact result in lower disposal costs.
However, storage and its administration are subject to strict regulations. In order to comply, KU Leuven has developed its own database and management system for radioactive waste in SAP, replacing the outdated Access database.
