What types of criminal activities take place in the port of Amsterdam and around the North Sea Canal? What consequences do they have? And how do you tackle subversive criminality? At the request of the Police and Science Commission, public administration expert Yarin Eski is conducting research on subversive criminality in and around the harbour area, and how it can be policed.
Eski has inventoried a number of subversive activities that are subject to surveillance and enforcement by the police, customs and financial crimes agency FIOD. The research explores the link between the legal and illegal world, with a special focus on drug crime.
The aim of the study is to shed light on the phenomenon of subversive criminality in the port of Amsterdam and the North Sea Canal area, and to improve related policing and policy. Research methods include case-file analysis, in-depth interviews, participatory fieldwork and surveys.
