Students work on real cases at the Migration Law Clinic

At the Migration Law Clinic, students work on complex issues. Recently, a third party intervention was submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

The VU Migration Law Clinic and the Legal Clinic on Human Rights and Migration Law of the International University College of Turin jointly submitted a third party intervention to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the case of H.A. v Italy.

The case concerns a Tunisian migrant who was deprived of his freedom in several places in Italy without any legal basis in Italian law. The Italian students and the VU students carried out research together and each contributed their own expertise. The Italian students focused on the situation in Italy, while the VU students handled ECHR case law.

At the Migration Law Clinic, students work on real cases involving European migration law, for example in the areas of asylum, visas, detention or family reunification. Supervised by researchers from the Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law, the students conduct research at a professional level and write an expert opinion for the European Court of Justice or a third party intervention for the European Court of Human Rights. In this way, the Clinic offers talented students the opportunity to develop their legal and professional skills.
