Yaser Ellethy, is rector-director of the Centre for Islamic Theology at the Faculty of Religion and Theology - VU University Amsterdam, and president of the European Society for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (ESITIS). He holds a PhD in Islamic Theology. He also holds a second PhD in Philology. His research activity focuses mainly on the exegesis tradition and the hermeneutics of the Quran and Hadith, the diachronic development of Islamic thought, Islam in Western context especially with regard to democracy, pluralism and Islam and otherness. He has published articles and books in English, Greek, Dutch, French and Arabic.
