prof. dr. Wouter ten Have

Personal information

Wouter ten Have is a full-professor of Organization and Change at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2016-present). He works at the part-time MSc.-program Change Management (Executive Education). After completing his master degree in economics at the Vrije Universiteit, Wouter obtained a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit. The subject of his thesis was the exploration and application of 'the in control' concept from an organisational and change management perspective. Wouter is an experienced change management practitioner and management consultant, as a partner at TEN HAVE Change Management (2004-present) and conslutant at Berenschot (1994-2004), where he was also member (director) of the Excecutive Board and chairman of the works council. Wouter is vice-chairman of the supervisory board of Cito and member of the supervisory board of a large healthcare organization, de Kwadrant Groep. Wouter was co-founder of the Foundation for Evidence Based Management (www.cebma.org). His researc focuses on change management, behavioral change, evidence-based (change) management, and designing effective organizations. His work has been published in several peer reviewed journals, e.g. The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, The Journal of Organizational Change Management, Leadership in Health Services and the Journal of Health Organization and Management. Wouter publihed nineteen books and tens of articles on change, leadership, strategy, management and organization. He was also the co-researcher of three projects focusing on change management practice, evidence based change management practices and an evidence based assessment of social psychology and change management. These resulted in three books he published in the 'Routledge Studies in Organizational Change & Development': Change Competence. Implementing Effective Change, Reconsidering Change Management. Applying Evidence_Based Insights in Change Management Practice, and The Social Psychology of Change Management. Theories and an Evidence-Based Perspective on Social and Organizational Beings. He was researcher in an international research project of the European Commission (Directorate- General III Industry) focusing on 14 countries and 35 cases under which ST Micro-electronics, Bosch, Sollac, Royal Mail, Nokia and Volvo. He was the co-author of the resulting book: The European Way to Excellence. How 35 European manufactering, public and service organizations make use of quality management. He received the McGregor Award (of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science) in 2014 for Effects of Change Management Interventions. What Kind of Evidence Do We Really Have. He also received the Dutch publication price (2014) for the best professional publication for an article on a fair change process. As a supervisor he finalized two PhD-project and one as co-supervisor, at this moment he supervises two candidates.
