Wais Sediq, MSc

Lecturer, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Political Science and Public Administration

Personal information

Wais Sediq is a Lecturer in Political Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the VU Amsterdam. He teaches courses and supervises Bachelor theses in the Political Science program.

Prior to starting at the VU he has taught for three years at the University of Amsterdam. He has a broad interest in questions on international security, how societies evolve through notions of justice and peace, and the role of history in global politics. His research interests lie in understanding how the liberal international order has interacted and expanded throughout history. More specifically, in how states have employed coercive force as a tool of foreign policy through foreign imposed regime changes or economic sanctions and the implicatons these have had on peace and justice.

Before joining academia he has worked as a policy researcher on Dutch, EU international security policy and EU migration trends at the WRR-think tank in the Hague and with the IND at the Ministry of Justice. In addition he has volunteered with several NGOs to provide relief efforts to refugees in Greece and the Netherlands.

He has received his MSc in Security Studies from the University College London, another MSc in Political Science from Leiden University, and his BSc in Public Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
