Vincent Geeraets is an assistant professor at the department of Legal Theory and History at VU University (since 2012). He graduated in law at the university of Groningen and worked as a PhD candidate at the department of Legal Theory also at the university in Groningen. In 2011 he successfully defended his thesis A Neutral Conception of Punishment.

Research
His research is centred on various topics related to criminal law. He has written about the concept of punishment, justificatory theories of punishment, the victim impact statement, restorative justice and doping in sports.
Teaching
He teaches several courses; among others: Philosophy of Criminal Law ("encyclopedie criminologie") (bachelor; students of criminology) and Methods of Legal Research (master; law students).
