I am an Assistant Professor at Wageningen University and a visiting fellow at the Climate and Ecosystem Change group at the VU. My research focusses on droughts and wildfires around the globe, with a focus on boreal and tropical ecosystems. In practice, this means combining (satellite) remote sensing images, climate data, other geospatial datasets and field data, often by using classic statistical methods, machine learning and by developing my own algorithms. Besides research, I very much enjoy supervising students and teaching courses, especially, when this involves fieldwork or outdoor excursions.
