Tamara Happé


PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Water and Climate Risk

Personal information

Tamara Happé is a PhD Candidate in the department of Water and Climate Risk of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Her research is part of a larger European project called: eXtreme events: Artificial Intelligence for Detection and Attribution (XAIDA). Particularly, she will focus on the detection of heatwaves in Europe and the drivers behind them.

She has obtained her bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Amsterdam University College, where she did her thesis research at the KNMI. Tamara continued her education at the VU, where she graduated from the Master Earth Sciences: Earth & Climate. She conducted her Master thesis research at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, in Germany, on the relation between North Atlantic sea surface temperatures and European summer extreme temperatures. She is excited to continue working on extreme events during her PhD.
