I am a scholar interested in trans-Atlantic exchanges of culture and ideas. I have published several articles about Southern, Texas, and Dutch history. I received my Bachelors and Masters degrees in History at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I was a teacher for six years in Texas. I spent three years in public education, five years as an adjunct for the Dolph Briscoe Unit in Dilley, Texas, and three years teaching at Southwest Texas College in Uvalde, Texas. During this time I was at the forefront of criminal justice reform; where I spent five years helping to rehabilitate incarcerated individuals through the ‘Second Chance Pell Grant’ in Dilley, Texas.
My PhD project, “Heart and Soul,” investigates the cultural expressions of emotions during the seventeenth- and eighteenth-centuries. My PhD advisors are Inger Leemans, Erika Kuijpers, and Matthias van Rossum.
