dr. Sebastian Baldermann


Assistant Professor, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation

Personal information

Sebastian Baldermann is Assistant Professor of International Business at the Department of Management & Organization, Strategic Management Group, at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

He studied (International) Economics in Göttingen and Groniningen before obtaining his doctorate at ESCP Business School Berlin in the field of International Management.

Research

Sebastian's research has two major focus points.

On the macro side, Sebastian is interested in the implications of global trends and geopolitical developments for International Business. For example, a recent study develops scenarios for European Multinationals in an era of geopolitical disruption.

On the micro side, Sebastian studies how individuals' characteristics shape organizations, with a particular emphasis on internationalization. Examples include studies about the implications of top mangers' internationalization for employer attractiveness or their busyness.

Sebastian regularly presents his research at international conferences and has published in journals like Journal of International ManagmentEuropean Management Journal or Management International Review.

He is involved in the Amsterdam Research Project (study association Aureus), as well as an active member of the VU Knowledge Hub for Global Business Development and co-organizer of the annual Globalization Research Day.

Teaching

Sebastian has teaching experience in International Management, International Strategy and Academic Writing.

In his teaching, Sebastian strives to incorporate interactive formats. He aims to combine state-of-the-art research with practical application, for instance, in group projects where students solve real-world company cases and put their theoretical knowledge to the test.

He completed his University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) in 2024.
