Personal information
Romie Schonewille is docent en promovenda bij de afdeling Criminologie aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Ze behaalde hier ook haar bachelor- en masterdiploma Criminologie en voltooide daarnaast een master Forensische Criminologie aan de Universiteit Leiden. Na haar afstuderen werkte Romie enige tijd als junior-onderzoeker bij GGzE.
 
Romie Schonewille is a lecturer and PhD candidate at the Department of Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminology at VU Amsterdam and completed a Master’s in Forensic Criminology at Leiden University. After graduating, Romie worked for some time as a junior researcher at GGzE.
Research

Sinds augustus 2024 is Romie werkzaam bij de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, waar zij het geven van diverse criminologievakken combineert met haar promotieonderzoek. Haar promotieonderzoek richt zich op feitenonderzoek en besluitvorming in kinderbeschermingsprocedures. Daarbij onderzoekt zij hoe inzichten uit de rechtspsychologie kunnen bijdragen aan valide feitenonderzoek en beslissingen binnen deze context, waarbij zij gebruikmaakt van verschillende kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethoden.

Since August 2024, Romie has been working at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she combines teaching various criminology courses with her PhD-research. Her PhD-research focuses on fact-finding and decision-making in child protection proceedings. She examines how insights from legal psychology can contribute to valid fact-finding and decisions within this context, using various qualitative research methods.
