Rik Grooten, MA


PhD Candidate, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation

Personal information

Rik Grooten is a PhD researcher and teacher at the Department of Management and Organization at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In June 2024, he started a 4-year PhD project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Brian Tjemkes, Dr. Jonathan Schad, and Dr. Désirée Laubengaier.

Rik holds a MSc degree in History of Politics and Society from Utrecht University and a BSc degree in International Business from Maastricht University. He has some work experience in the consulting field. 

Research
Rik is researching tensions in the world's most complex problems. The research aims to investigate how individuals, organizations, and societies navigate 'wicked' problems. In light of rising economic inequality in the Western world and current public discourse on social inequalities, his PhD project focuses on how individuals, organizations, and societies navigate the tensions that arise from the wicked problem of inequality.
Teaching

Rik teaches Bachelor-level courses, such as Strategie 2.1 and Business Project. Moreover, Rik supervises Bachelor's and Master's theses.
