Personal information

Dr. Raôul R.D. Oudejans is (Associate) Professor Learning and Performing in Sports, Department of Human Movement Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Faculty of Sports and Nutrition, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands. He has always been intrigued by the excellence with which humans can move around in their environments and the seemingly limitless possibilities to improve perceptual-motor skills and become ever better. He received his PhD in 1996 on his research into the optics and actions of catching fly balls in baseball. Ever since his main research and teaching areas are perceiving and moving in sports and other high-pressure contexts such as police work and performing arts with emphasis on the psychological factors involved in performing. The last fifteen years Raôul specialized in the visual control of the basketball shot as well as in training and performing under pressure. His research is part of the program Sports and Work of research institute Amsterdam Movement Sciences (AMS) and Institute for Brain and Behaviour Amsterdam (iBBA).

Shotpros: A human factors based (VR) training framework for decision-making and acting capabilities under stress and in high-risk situations for European LEAs. 2018

Oudejans, R.R.D. (2018). SIA RAAK Publiek Training for Excellence (T4X): Research into innovative training methods in sport, music en dance. Automated Perceptual Training for Basketball Shooting, funded by InnoSportNL, the Dutch Basketball Association (NBB), and Center for Topsport and Education Amsterdam (CTO Amsterdam); research project in collaboration with Center for Topsport and Education Women Basketball (CTO Vrouwenbasketball); total € 82,003, contribution FBW € 26,377, contribution external parties €55,627 (InnoSportNL € 27,813, NBB € 13,907, CTO Amsterdam € 13,907).

Oudejans, R.R.D. (2009). Six months supplement to research project entitled Practicing under pressure: Effects on skills of police officers (Trainen onder druk: Effecten op de beroepsvaardigheden van politieambtenaren) funded by the Police Academy Amsterdam-Amstelland; € 49.871,-.

2006 
Continuation of collaboration with Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), project: Attention, gaze behavior and anticipation in junior soccer players (€ 19,860.-, June 2006). 

2002 
Four year PhD project funded by NWO as part of a five‑project NWO research programme within the "2002 Cognition round", together with prof. dr. P.J. Beek. Main applicant research programme: prof. dr. G. Semin, dept. of Social Psychology, VU University Amsterdam. 

1997 
Four year PhD project funded by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB, 1997); proposal together with prof. dr. P.J. Beek and dr. F.C. Bakker (fl. 300,000).
