Current research
My research examines the interactional dynamics between police officers and citizens during everyday encounters. I am particularly interested in how these interactions develop over time, and how certain behaviours, responses, and situational factors can contribute to escalation or de-escalation.
Drawing on insights from the sociology of interaction, the project focuses on the micro-level processes that shape police–citizen encounters in real-life situations. Rather than looking only at outcomes such as conflict or use of force, the research seeks to understand the sequence of actions and reactions through which interactions unfold.
By studying these interactional patterns, the project aims to contribute to a better understanding of how escalation emerges and how it can potentially be prevented. The findings may inform future research, training, and policy aimed at improving interactions between police and the public.
