dr. Pascal Wissink

Pascal specialises in topics at the cutting edge of disruption risk and optimisation: He studies optimisation challenges in financial, supply and transportation networks where failure uncertainty plays a substantial role and exploits data analytics to assess the stability of optimal solutions. His current line of research focuses on the resilience of optimal decisions in networks prone to percolation. For example, the impact of correlated random failures on the liquidity of the ridesharing economy, sustainable investments in the aluminium industry or the CVaR of evacuation decisions. Applications that he considers often feature sustainability challenges. His research interests include copulas, stochastic processes and multi-stage methods in stochastic and robust optimisation.

Pascal has taught several courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and executive level at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Tinbergen Institute and (previously) University of Edinburgh. His involvement encompasses several programmes, including the BSc Bedrijfskunde, MSc Econometrics and Operations Research, MSc Transport and Supply Chain Management, PGDip in Business Analytics and Data Science, and MRes Business Data Science. Courses that he taught include Statistics for Finance, Simulation Analysis & Optimization, Computing for Business, Developing Skills For Business Leadership, Process Analytics, and Supply Chain Management.

Pascal is currently the course coordinator of Business Processes (BSc Bedrijfskunde) and thesis coordinator of the MSc programme in Transport and Supply Chain Management. He also lectures in these courses and supervises several MSc and PhD thesis students.
