With rising numbers of young people growing up in urban areas, there is a need to understand how they interact with urban contexts and how this shapes their health and wellbeing. My research examines how everyday physical and social environments, and particularly nature-rich environments, influence the (mental) health and wellbeing of young people (0 – 25 years). This work covers multiple contexts, including school settings as well as residential and other everyday environments. My research interests include environment–behavior interactions, the design of supportive environments, preventive environmental interventions, and implementation science. Methodologically, my expertise spans multiple study designs and approaches, including intervention studies, observational studies, systematic literature reviews, and qualitative research such as interviews and behavioral observations. In my work, I regularly collaborate with schools, designers, local governments, and other societal actors. Through this practice-oriented approach, my work addresses real-world challenges and contribute to tangible societal impact, including evidence-based design and health policy.
