Ming Boyer is a research associate in Communication Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He focuses his research on the role of citizens' group identities in selecting, processing and creating political communication. Currently, he holds a NWO Veni grant on how dominant and marginalized groups communicate differently.
Previously, Ming was a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC project DeVOTE, "The Meanings of Voting for Ordinary Citizens", a comprehensive study on what voting means to citizens around the world. Within this project, he was particularly interested in negative understandings of voting and media effects.
In his PhD project, Ming explored how citizens process political information that relates to both political parties or ideologies as well as their group identities. He graduated with distinction from the University of Vienna in 2021.
